The Rose

The Rose was written by Amanda McBroom for the 1977 movie “The Rose”. The film is a biography of rock singer Janis Joplin, and the role was played by Bette Midler, whose version of this often performed song is the most famous.

Both Ms. Midler and the song were nominated for Academy Awards that year, though neither won the Oscar.

The Rose was written by multi talented singer/songwriter/actress Amanda McBroom. She continues to pursue many facets of the

 

arts and her talents are many. For example, McBroom composed music for the animated feature “Hercules and Xena” and appeared in “Star Trek: The Next Generation”.

In 1997 her recording “A Waiting Heart” was on the NY Times’ Top Twenty of the Year list.
