Pachelbel Canon Song Notes
Johann Pachelbel (1653-1796) was one of the great organist-composers of his day, a man who could count Bach’s teacher among his pupils.
The Pachelbel Canon in D Major was originally written for three violins and basso continuo. In the centuries that followed, this compostion gained much greater renown than any of his other works, becoming what RCA records once wryly called “Pachelbel’s Greatest Hit.”
In developing his ground-breaking form of “ambient music”, contemporary musician Brian Eno based two different compositions on transformations of the Pachelbel Canon.
