MUSIC LIFTS OUR SPIRITS
Music has always been used to lift our spirits and give hope in down times. Of course, you process music with your ears, but the harmony and rhythm of your favorite songs also changes the harmony and rhythm of your entire essence. How do you feel when you hear “What a Wonderful World”? It probably takes you away from everyday concerns, and makes you think of birds, flowers, trees, and the wonder of the world. The harmony, melody and words of “Amazing Grace” put many people in a spiritual state.. Music is good for the soul and connects us to the universe.
MUSIC HELPED EASE PAIN ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
On the night of September 11, 2001, many people in Manhattan neighborhoods gathered and sang. They sang songs from grade school, patriotic songs like “America the Beautiful” and “The Star Spangled Banner.”They gathered around firehouses, using music to get them and others through the horrible destruction of the Twin Towers. Several days later everyone gathered at Lincoln Center to hear the Brahms Requiem. Later, the reopening of Broadway was celebrated as a big step in the recovery of New York. Perhaps the music helped them, better than words, the senseless act that took so many lives.
WE WILL GET THROUGH THE PANDEMIC OF 2020
Listen to some of your favorite music, play your instrument, or sing. Music can take your mind off the panic, fear and frustration, and boost your immune system. Eventually, we’ll look back on the pandemic of 2020 as a challenge that prompted some good results. It resulted in the senate working in a bipartisan way to agree on a bill to aid individuals and businesses economically. The medical community and scientists teamed up to work on developing new medicines and vaccines. The order to stay at home resulted in families spending more time together, individuals becoming calm and introspective. I learned how to teach my students online. I’ve done more yoga, read more and improved my harp skills.
