About Sally

My own love of music began very early in my life. I began learning to play the piano as a young child and my latent talent, abilities, and appreciation for music were fostered and encouraged by my family. I went on to learn many other instruments as well as to sing.

I know personally how wonderful and deeply helpful it is to be conversant in music and be able to play. It has been a tremendous help and gift to me throughout my life. So, as strong as is my love of playing music, is my joy as a teacher in drawing these abilities and talents out of others.

My own experiences make me a patient and encouraging teacher, and I enjoy involving my students in choosing music to learn that is most suited to their tastes.

I teach the piano and the harp. Learning one or both of these instruments provides an excellent basis for one's musical education. You will learn to read music, to better understand rhythm and harmony, and to enjoy sharing music with others through performance. These skills will enhance and enrich your experience and capability in all areas of your life, and add to your aptitude for learning other instruments or singing, if desired in future.

Learning to play a musical instrument is enjoyable, relaxing, and increases your intelligence. It has been shown in research that more parts of the brain are active while one reads and plays music than during any other activitiy. Studies also show that students learning music consistently outperform their peers on SAT and intelligence tests, demonstrate better memory retention and a better performance generally in school. Many experience enhanced ability to learn languages and mathematics, as well. In addition, music has been demonstrated to enhance the body's natural relaxation and healing processes.

Sally, teaching the harp

"We felt teaching our six year old the harp would take a balance of enthusiasm and dedication.

Fortunately we were introduced to Sally and found that her ability to patiently work with our daughter has made what could be an intimidating instrument wonderful and fun.

Sally's gentle style combined with solid focused attention allows our daughter to be challenged while retaining her excitement for playing music.  She's a great teacher."

Folk harp, concert harp, piano

"My daughter began taking her first piano lessons from Sally and has blossomed into a very confident pianist who can now play Fur Elise!

The wonderful thing about Sally is that she was not intimidating and was very encouraging right off the bat so that my daughter felt very comfortable learning new material and was enthusiastic about playing in recitals.

Sally has also encouraged our daughter to choose music that she is interested in so that she stays inspired by the piano.

I would highly recommend learning the piano from Sally!

"Sally teaches my six-year-old daughter harp. My daughter has blossomed under Sally's kind and patient instruction.

I like Sally's flexibility—given our schedules can get busy at times. I also appreciate Sally's ability and willingness to arrange songs that my daughter wants to play for special occasions.

My daughter has enjoyed playing in a few recitals with other harp students, younger and older.

The harp is such a beautiful instrument, and I'm grateful that Sally is nurturing my daughter's love of playing music on it. "

"When it came time for my daughter to learn an instrument for school, we decided to go with a harp because it is hard to make a harp sound bad or annoying (and they make such beautiful music when played well).

So far the decision to go with a harp has been a brilliant decision! Luckily we also found Sally, who has been a wonderful, patient and kind instructor for our 7 year old…

Sally is very relaxed, calm and patient and understands the pace that works for kids. She also allows our daughter to be very involved in picking which songs to learn and makes the lessons fun. Our daughter looks forward to her weekly lessons and actually practices on her harp daily w/o us having to remind her.

If you need an instructor or a performer I'd highly recommend Sally."
